The most convincingly dressed people we see across the counter own remarkably little jewellery. What they own, they wear constantly, and it has taken on the particular quality that only comes from being worn — softened edges, a settled chain, the faint polish that a collarbone puts on gold over years.
That quality cannot be bought new and cannot be faked. It can only be started.
Where to start
- One chain at a length you can wear under a collar, in a weight you can feel.
- One pair of earrings light enough for a working day.
- One ring that clears everything you do with your hands.
- Then stop for a year, and see which of the three you reach for.
Buy the fourth piece only after a year of wearing the first three.
The fourth piece bought after that year will be a far better decision than the fourth piece bought in the same week as the first three. It will also, almost always, be heavier — because by then you know what you actually wear.
