Practical
Care
High-purity gold is soft, stones are set in metal that moves, and both facts have practical consequences.
At home
Warm water, a drop of plain soap, a soft brush, and patience. That is the entire domestic method and it is sufficient for almost everything.
- Remove gold before swimming — chlorine attacks the alloy metals at the joins.
- Apply perfume and hairspray before jewellery, not after.
- Store each piece in its own soft pouch. Gold scratches gold.
- Keep ultrasonic cleaners away from pavé and closed-back settings.
Annual check
Bring any piece made here in once a year and we will check the clasps and stone seats and re-finish the surface. There is no charge for it.
Most jewellery that is lost was not stolen. It came off a clasp that had felt slightly loose for several months.
Repairs and alterations
Resizing, re-tipping, re-stringing and clasp replacement are all done at our own bench rather than sent out. Quotes are given against the piece in front of you, and we will tell you when a repair is not worth doing.
