How the figure is built
Three numbers, always shown apart.
Metal
Fine weight — the actual pure gold in the piece — multiplied by the published rate for that purity on the day. A 22K piece is 91.6% gold; you pay for the gold, not the alloy.
Making
The workshop’s charge for the labour, quoted per gram against a floor. It never moves with the metal price, so you can compare it to anyone else’s.
Stones
Charged per carat at the quality stated. Accent stones are charged at a lower rate than the centre because they are smaller and set faster.
If the piece you want is not one of these six forms, it is still perfectly possible. That is what a commission is for.
