Gold rings on dark stone under raking light

Collection

Antique

Newar forms, kept honest.

  • 0 pieces
  • 22K gold

Old forms, made properly, rather than new forms made to look old.

The antique work draws on the temple metalwork of the Kathmandu valley — the repoussé, the deep oxidised relief, the motifs that predate every jeweller currently working on New Road.

We do not distress new gold to look old. The finish comes from the technique itself: raised from the back, chased from the front, and darkened only in the recesses where a century of handling would have darkened it anyway.

At the bench
Repoussé cannot be rushed and cannot be cast. Every antique piece is raised by hand from sheet, which is why there are never many of them at once.
